STORY OF BANDARO

I visited the village of Bandaro, Chad, in December 2020, where I met Yacoub Akaina Alkhali. 

 

Yacoub is one of many young Chadians who tried to make a living in the dangerous gold mines in the north near war-torn neighboring countries. Conditions at the gold mines were grim. Fearing for his life, he decided to move back to Bandaro, where he participated in one of WFP's programs to improve the living conditions of vulnerable populations: a community garden.
